Community & Campus Organizing

What matters to you?

Community, stories, vitality, livelihood, healing, & transformation, and holistic compassion for between each other and the Earth matters in all areas of my life.

What are some wise words to live by?

"Let me just say to you, peace to you if you are willing to fight for it." - Fred Hampton

What brings you joy?

Authenticity, realness, and expression of my communities as we continue to figure out ways to thrive in this world. The laughter, resiliency, strength, and adaptation in the face of adversity but also as a way to support each other throughout our lives. The culture and fluidity of BIPOC folk along with the willingness to embrace, love and celebrate every aspect of who we are and our communities.

Social Transformation Intern

Mariah Cannon (they/them/theirs) is from Brooklyn Center, Minnesota and is a recent graduate with a Business Management A.A.S Degree. Their beliefs are rooted in organizing around resources, racial and gender equity, policy/systemic transformation, and applying an intersectional lens as our communities move together towards liberation. At Minneapolis College, Mariah served as Lead Organizer of Students Against Homelessness & Hunger to provide food security to the student body. They continued their community-centered work while interning in the Division of Race & Equity at the City of Minneapolis. Similarly, they intend to continue their education at Metropolitan State University with a focus on community organizing, ethnic studies, and digital media to center lived experiences, stories, and research as means to shape the advancement of equity. As they grow as Social Transformation Intern with WE, Mariah aspires to strengthen an ecosystem of resources, compassion, and voices to support intersectional communities around the world.
