Colleen O’Brien, Psy.D. is a psychologist and Clinical Director at the Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), where she leads Population Behavioral Health for CHA’s accountable care organization. Colleen is also an Instructor in Psychology, Psychiatry Department at Harvard Medical School. She is passionate about value-based health care, health equity and social justice.
Colleen has 30 years of clinical and consulting experience, playing leadership roles in quality improvement, managed behavioral healthcare, and corrections mental healthcare. She co-led the design and implementation of Primary Care Mental Health Integration at CHA, building on her earlier experience as Senior Clinical Consultant to the Vermont Community Depression Project, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation initiative demonstrating both the impact of integrated care, and the need for systems redesign.
As Magellan Health Regional President, Colleen developed and led a managed behavioral health organization serving five public and commercial payers. She was also Program Administrator, Vermont Department of Corrections, and built a mental healthcare program serving prisons and jails statewide. Prior to becoming a psychologist, she was Director of Technical Publications at Apollo Computer. Colleen completed a B.A. journalism at Northeastern University and a doctorate in psychology at William James College. She also completed graduate studies in management and information technology, and a Gold Foundation Fellowship in health care quality improvement.
